High Priest / Hierophant (5)

Affirmation

The High Priest tells you: "I open myself to the power of the Universe."

Upright

Organizing, operating in groups, religion, family structure, traditions, the meaning of life, keeping to the rules, making a decision and integrate it in your life

Reversed

Overpowering force of a group, gang, dogma, keeping someone down, discussing conventional ideas, rebelling, being an exentric, the need to break with all the rules, getting really bad advice

Radiant Rider Waite - Hierophant (5)

In your reading

You know what it is? If you wear a nice "gown" like the High Priest it doesn't make him a High Priest because of it. Being someone like that is something you have to learn and earn by doing the hard work within the rules of society and or the family. Some people can put up a great facade by saying the right words but not living up to it. Following the rules, your own or others, is really hard. At some point they seem right but you often have to evaluate if they are still fitting the situation. If they become constricting then you've got to let them go and make other rules. Or do without for a while and see how that feels.

This personality can be a bit of an obsessive so now and then. He is so focused on following the order that he forgets to live himself. He's literally closed up within his own thought patterns and he expects others to also see it like that. When the people around him start to rebel he is often thrown back at whether he's a good leader or not. If he's more than a good speech then he will live through the revolt. But if it was as thin as glass he often sees his world tumbling down.

This person can be scared to live free and he holds on to the rules because it gives him a feeling of security. But this also restricts him. Break free from what you expect from yourself or what others expect from you.

This card often stands for the point of reference that you were taught when you were young. If this way you look at the world is restricting then consciously change it by replacing old view with new ones. Become unique and authentic. The you you want to be. On the other side you have to remember that there is nothing wrong with a traditional look on life. It is the point from where you start your personal development. Just check if it fits your view on life, if not then change it. You are not caught in between the rules and expectations of the older generation.
