Four of Cups

The Four of Cups Quote

"The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity."
Dorothy Parker (1893 - 1967)

Llewellyn Tarot - Four of Cups

Meaning upright

Patience, nothing more to wish for, satisfaction, concentration, healing, opening to the power of the Universe, surrender, emotional maturity, no more need to be part of a group, boredom, resistance, paralysis, accepting a lesser option, hanging on to the old, focusing on yourself, emptiness.

Meaning reversed

Loss of security, not seeing what you do have, drinking so much that you don?t feel anything anymore, getting what you do not have from others, impatience, unconnected with your centre, letting go of what is no longer helping you, sacrificing, spontaneity, the end of a very emotional time period.

The Four of Cups in your reading

Back when I was little there were moments at which I was awfully bored. I would go to my mom and ask her what I could do. She would tell me "to be bored" (knowing I was bored out of my brains) "because boring is very good for you". I didn't understand it then but I do now. It made me more independent because I could take care of my own bad moods and it made me less dependent on others to make me happy and occupied. And it triggered my creativity to think of something fun to do.

Boredom is a situation in which you are very focused on yourself and what you?re feeling. They are often the lesser feelings that you want to hide under a layer of boredom. It is all about not wanting to feel what is going on. Because of it you slide into a state of ?nothingness?. But sometimes it is very important to feel what is going on. That is why this card stands for taking time to see your dreams, fantasy and thinking. Just as long to restore balance. Sometimes it helps to use meditation to get through it.

When you feel apathy (nothing matters anymore) then this card shows you may have a depression. If this situation takes too long to clear up then it is advised to find someone to help you. There is nothing wrong in a period like this but you need to make steps when it is starting to bother you in the rest of your life.

Just wait, before you know it, you will see improvement.
